GLP-1 therapy

GLP-1 Medications for Weight Loss in Colorado

GLP-1 medications act on the hormones that control appetite and fullness. They can reduce hunger and cravings and help you feel full sooner. These are the options your clinician may discuss:

Semaglutide

Sold as Wegovy for chronic weight management and as Ozempic for type 2 diabetes. It is a once-weekly injection that is increased slowly to limit side effects.

Tirzepatide

Sold as Zepbound for chronic weight management and as Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes. It acts on both GLP-1 and GIP hormone receptors and is also taken once a week.

Nutrition and activity

Medication works best alongside realistic changes to eating, movement and sleep. Your plan includes practical steps you can keep up.

Monitoring and side effects

Nausea, constipation and other stomach side effects are common early on. Follow-up visits are used to review progress, side effects and the dose.

Who May Qualify for GLP-1 Weight Loss Treatment?

FDA-approved weight-loss medications are generally used for adults who have:

  • A body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, or
  • A BMI of 27 or higher with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes or high cholesterol

GLP-1 medications are not used during pregnancy or in people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (MEN 2). Your clinician reviews your full history before recommending any medication, and a prescription is not guaranteed.
