Quick answer
Who Is a Good Candidate for Hormone Replacement Therapy?
HRT may help women with bothersome menopause or perimenopause symptoms, such as hot flashes, night sweats, sleep problems and vaginal dryness, and men with symptoms of low testosterone confirmed by blood tests. It is not right for everyone. At TheAdvancedMed, we review your symptoms, health history and lab results first, then discuss benefits, risks and options before starting any treatment.

Our approach
Our Approach to Hormone Therapy
We do not use a one-size-fits-all approach.
Evaluation and lab testing
Dr. Nwaokolo reviews your symptoms and health history and orders lab tests to measure your hormone levels and look for other causes, such as thyroid problems.
Risk review
We review your personal and family history, including blood clots, heart disease and cancer, to make sure HRT is a safe option for you.
A personalized plan
Based on your results, we design an HRT plan that may include FDA-approved hormones in creams, gels, patches, injections or pills, at the lowest effective dose.
Ongoing monitoring
Regular follow-ups and repeat labs check how you feel, track side effects and keep your therapy safe and effective.
Mind and body
The Mental Health Connection
Hormones and mood
Dropping estrogen during perimenopause and menopause is linked to anxiety, low mood and poor sleep in many women.
Low testosterone and energy
Low testosterone in men is associated with fatigue, low motivation and low mood.
One provider for both
As a dual board-certified psychiatric and family nurse practitioner, Dr. Nwaokolo looks at hormones and mental health together, so the right cause gets treated.

FAQ
Hormone Replacement Therapy FAQs
Straight answers to the questions patients ask us most.
What are bioidentical hormones?
Bioidentical hormones have the same chemical structure as the hormones your body makes. Several are FDA-approved, such as estradiol patches and gels and micronized progesterone. Custom-compounded hormones are not FDA-approved and have less testing for safety and dose accuracy, so we discuss options carefully.
Is HRT safe?
For many healthy women under 60 or within 10 years of menopause, the benefits of HRT often outweigh the risks. Risks depend on your age, health and the type of hormone. We do a thorough review of your history and monitor you closely throughout treatment.
Can I receive HRT via telehealth in Georgia?
Yes. We offer telehealth HRT consultations and management for patients throughout Georgia. Lab work can be completed at a local lab near you.
Do you treat low testosterone in men?
Yes. We confirm low testosterone with morning blood tests on two separate days, look for causes, and monitor blood counts and other labs during treatment.
How soon will I feel better on HRT?
Some people notice better sleep and fewer hot flashes within a few weeks. Full effects often take two to three months.
Who should not take HRT?
HRT may not be right if you have a history of certain cancers, blood clots, stroke, heart disease or liver disease. We review your history to decide what is safe for you.
